The latest information about the Black Farmers Discrimination Litigation Settlement is available at BlackFarmerCase.com. No further claims may be submitted, because the claim filing deadline was May 11, 2012, and the Court approved the final distribution of more than $1.2 billion dollars to claimants in August 2013.
The black farmer case arose from a 1997 class-action lawsuit filed by African-American farmers against the U.S. Department of Agriculture, claiming that the agency had discriminated against them on the basis of race. The lawsuit, named Pigford vs. Glickman, formed the basis for the settlement, which was approved by the Obama administration in 2010.
