Where can an A-Z list of all the countries of the world be found?

The US Department of State provides an alphabetical list of countries. There is also a list of independent states, defined as sovereign states with a definite territory recognized as independent by the United States.

Independent states are also listed alphabetically, providing short-form and long-form names of each state along with the name of the capital city. Additional information is given for dependencies and other areas of special sovereignty in a separate listing. Again, these are listed in alphabetical order, giving details of the sovereign power and the location of the state's administrative center. Additional notes and explanations are provided for each of the listings.
