Capsaicin extract is a chemical derived from the fruit of the capsicum plant and is used in the manufacture of various medicines, including those used for treating stomach ailments, poor circulation and excessive blood clotting, according to WebMD. It is also used to alleviate toothaches.
Capsaicin is also known as capsicum, chili pepper or red pepper, and it is often used in products that are recommended for the treatment of muscle spasms, shingles, fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis, according to WebMD. As of 2014, a form of the capsicum is being tested for use in treating osteoarthritis and migraine headaches, among other conditions.
