The car Sean Boswell raced at the beginning of "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" was a 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Its only appearance was at the beginning for the race scene in which Boswell ultimately crashed.
The film used more than 200 cars, and producers got them from all around the world. There were 11 Nissan 350Zs, which filmmakers brought in from Japan because the cars needed right-hand drive function. The majority of the cars overall were Nissans, but Mitsubishi, Toyota and Volkswagen cars made appearances. For Boswell's final race with the Drift King, he used a 1967 Ford Mustang with a 2001 Nissan Skyline RB26 engine and a 1998 Nissan Skyline 5-speed 2WD transmission.
