What is caret browsing?

Caret browsing, sometimes called caret navigation, is a way of moving through a page with only a keyboard, with the point of selection being the blinking text cursor, called the caret. Traditionally seen in word processing or office programs, it is also a feature of the Internet browser Mozilla Firefox.

In caret browsing, the arrow keys move the caret around the page. Text can be typed directly onto the page at the caret's location, causing existing text to be moved down. Hypertext links can be followed by pressing Enter while the caret is over the link. Caret browsing within Firefox was initially used as a debugging tool before becoming a full feature.
