A cartoon grasshopper is a series of pictures depicting a grasshopper, each one drawn slightly different so that when run through a projector, it appears to move. The drawing and filming of these pictures in a sequence can be referred to as animation.
One of the most famous cartoon grasshoppers appears in a Disney animation titled "The Grasshopper and the Ant." It is a retelling of one of Aesop's fables proving the merits of hard work and planning for the future. The short film was released February 10, 1934 and featured the song "The World Owes Me a Living," written by Leigh Harline who would later go on to do the voice for the famous Disney character, Goofy.
