What causes global warning?

Global warming is caused by an abundance of carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere. The higher levels of carbon dioxide act the same as a blanket, keeping heat in and essentially warming up the temperature of the Earth. Carbon dioxide survives in the atmosphere for a long period of time.

Carbon dioxide is emitted when fossil fuels, such as coal, oil or natural gas, are burned for energy. Other gases that can cause global warming are methane and nitrous oxide.

To prevent global warming damage, the emission of heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere needs to be reduced. This can include using energy-efficient technology in homes.
