What causes high estradiol levels?

High estradiol levels may indicate that someone is experiencing early puberty, ovarian or testes tumors, breast development in men or some other conditions, according to Healthline. Both men and women can experience high estradiol levels.
Another cause of high estradiol levels includes hyperthyroidism, which is when the thyroid gland is overactive. In addition, they can indicate liver cirrhosis, which is scarring of the liver. To perform an estradiol test, a phlebotomist takes venous blood. This involves wrapping a tourniquet around the upper arm before inserting a needle into the vein to draw blood. Some people may experience a brief pricking sensation, but the test only lasts for a couple of minutes.
