What causes tomatoes to split on the vine?
By Forinfos - 07/04/2026 - 0 comments
Tomato cracks or splits can be caused by a number of factors, though they are primarily the result of not getting enough water on a regular basis. Genetics may also play a role in this phenomenon.
To prevent splitting, gardeners should soak plants at least once week; however, gardeners should not leave them in standing water. Tomato plants should have a good drainage system alongside regular watering, as drastic changes in how much water they receive is likely what leads to splitting.
Other factors can also contribute to cracking, including air humidity, calcium and temperature. In other words, agriculture experts are still debating how to solve the problem of cracking or splitting.
