What are the causes of unemployment in India?
By Forinfos - 02/12/2025 - 0 comments
The main causes of unemployment in India are a rapidly growing population and limited land. This country had a population of 1.21 billion people by the end of 2011 and is expected to be the most populous country by 2025, overtaking China, which had a population of 1.3 billion people as of July of 2014.
India's main economic activity is agriculture, which provides most of the employment opportunities. However, as the population increases, land resources are overexploited, rendering a majority of the population jobless. Agriculture in the country is also seasonal which means most of the people that find work eventually lose it when the agricultural season elapses.
Other causes of unemployment include:
- Lack of proper employment planning
- Poor transport and communication infrastructure
- Defective educational system
- Poor agricultural techniques
- Decline of the cottage industry
