What is a Central American boa?

A Central American boa is a breed of boa constrictor found in Central America and northern South America. It is also referred to as a common or Mexican boa and is the most common type of pet boa in the United States.

The Central American boa is slightly smaller than other types of boa constrictors, growing to between 4 and 8 feet in length. In captivity, a Central American boa's life expectancy is 20 to 35 years. Compared to other boa breeds, the Central American boa is well-tempered. Other species of boa include the red-tailed boa, the Ecuadorian boa and the Dominican clouded boa.
