Is ceramic cookware safe?

Ceramic cookware is safe to prepare and serve food in when it is labeled as a Perfluorooctanoic acid-free product. Cookware that is PFOA may still be used safely, as long as the cookware is not scratched or dented. This food-safe ceramic cookware is typically labeled as being PFOA free.

Previous to 2006, much ceramic cookware contained the chemical Perfluorooctanoic acid, which is harmful to humans. Discard cookware containing PFOA if the coating has been harmed, as scratches in the coating may allow the chemical to enter food. Refrain from using metal utensils with ceramic cookware, and clean it with a soft sponge rather than steel wool.
