What is a change from one form of energy into another?

The change of one energy type into one or more other energy type(s) is energy transformation, also known as energy conversion. The law of conservation of energy asserts that energy cannot be destroyed, merely transformed from one type of energy to another.
Energy exists in a number of forms that science is still discovering; however, the main types are light energy, chemical energy, mechanical energy, nuclear energy, electric energy, heat energy and sound energy. Each of those types has many subtypes, and all of those subtypes have a kinetic and a potential version of energy. Kinetic energy is the energy of movement, while potential energy is stored energy.
