By Forinfos - 11/10/2025 - 0 comments
The characteristics of the Hongi cichlid, or Labidochromis sp. "Hongi," have been described as territorial and aggressive. The striking blue coloration of this fish is accompanied by black stripes and an orange dorsal fin. However, its characteristics are not fully documented due to its status as an unclassified species.
The Hongi cichlid resides in Lake Malawi near Hongi Island of Tanzania. Adults grow to 4 inches in length. Breeding occurs easily in captivity, although certain individuals may need to be separated due to aggression. Females display more muted coloration than males. The diet of the Hongi cichlid is omnivorous, although in captivity, it readily subsists on flakes and brine shrimp.
