What is Charles Dickens famous for?

Charles Dickens is famous for his classic works of literature, including "Oliver Twist," "Nicholas Nickleby," "A Tale of Two Cities," "David Copperfield" and "A Christmas Carol." His novel "Great Expectations" is considered to be his finest work.

Born in 1812, Dickens began his career writing a series of sketches called "The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club." His success led him to be the publisher of the "Bentley’s Miscellany," in which appeared chapters of "Oliver Twist." He toured the United States in 1842; however, he found Americans annoying and felt his privacy was invaded. He died in 1870 of a stroke, leaving his final novel, "The Mystery of Edwin Drood," incomplete.
