Is chatting in online sites safe?

Online chatting is a fun way to exchange information and share ideas. However, chatters can keep themselves safe by not giving out any personal information, such as their real name, address, phone number, current city or school name.

Online chatters need to stay in charge during all conversations. Remember that the person on the other side of the screen might not be who they say they are. If someone is being pushy or offensive, the block or ignore features can be very helpful. Never agree to meet someone from a chat room in person alone. Instead, always meet in a public, highly visible place, and bring a friend or a family member along.
