Remove chewing gum from leather by applying soap suds to the gum, scraping the gum off of the material, drying the leather and applying a leather cleaner. You need detergent, water, a sponge, a clean cloth and leather cleaner. Removing the chewing gum should take less than 30 minutes.
- Remove as much gum as possible
Scrape off and dispose of any loose gum, being careful not to harm the leather.
- Isolate the affected area
Fold the leather back so that only the affected area is visible. Avoid treating any areas not affected by the chewing gum.
- Create soap suds
Pour warm water and detergent into a bowl. Swish the water and detergent around to create soap suds.
- Apply the soap suds to the leather
Gather a small amount of the suds sitting on top of the water, and apply it to the chewing gum on the leather.
- Scrub the leather
Use the sponge to scrub the suds into the chewing gum and affected leather. Continue to scrub until all the chewing gum is removed.
- Dry the leather
Wipe the leather with a clean cloth, and allow the leather to air dry.
- Apply a leather cleaner
Rub leather cleaner onto the affected area to restore suppleness to the leather.
