Do chickens eat grass?

Chickens consume grass and all of the insects, moles and flowers they can find. They fertilize the lawn at the same time they're feeding. Chickens may be fed grass clippings.
Chickens are omnivores and eat a wide variety of foods, from snakes to grain. Chicken owners may feed them leftovers such as stale toast, green beans, potato skins and other common human foods. Until the 20th century, most chickens scavenged for a living. They ate bugs and insects, grass, kitchen scraps and grain spilled from horse feeders. Modern breeds of chicken lay more eggs than chickens in the past. Farmers supplement the chicken's diet with commercial feeds in order to support a high level of egg production.
