Cinnamon sticks come from the brown bark that is stripped from the cinnamon tree. The bark is dried, rolled into a tube-shaped form and then sold as a whole quill, which is then ground into a powder that is used for human consumption.
Cinnamon has long been used as a medicine and flavoring by many cultures and is one of the oldest spices in the world. It was used by the ancient Egyptians as an embalming agent and was also considered by them to be more valuable than gold. Cinnamon is currently used in food and medicine throughout the world and is produced in countries such as India, Brazil, China, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Vietnam.
