Civil War medals are extremely rare and can be quite valuable. For instance, a 2009 appraisal of one Civil War veteran's medal and watch put its value at $6,000.

A Militia Men for Abraham Lincoln medal from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts dated 1861 was offered on the auction site eBay in Aug. 2014 for $4,120, while a General Rosecrans national battle pin from 1862-1863 was priced at $1,975. A General Burnside battle pin that was one of only five known remaining pieces in the world was offered for $975 or best offer. The rarity and condition of Civil War medals greatly influences their values.
