Sweep limestone steps to remove dirt and sand thoroughly. Mop the steps with warm water and stone cleaner. Use a high pressure washer to cleanse and rinse the steps.
Limestone readily absorbs stains, so wipe up spills as quickly as possible. A damp cloth or a gentle brush is ideal for removing soot and dirt immediately. Use a masonry detergent or stone cleaner to clean limestone; cleansers with vinegar, lemon or other acids can erode the surface. Use a rug to clean for small surfaces and a mop for large surfaces. After cleaning, go over the steps with a dry mop or rug to soak up extra liquid and prevent streaks while drying.
