What is the climate like in the world's coldest deserts?
By Forinfos - 22/02/2026 - 0 comments
The average winter temperature in a cold desert is usually between -20 and -30 degrees Fahrenheit. The average rainfall for these areas is only between 6 and 10 inches per year. Tundra also experiences brutally cold wind.
Temperatures during the summer, which lasts only 6 to 10 weeks, never rise above 45 degrees. It is always windy, and the sun shines 24 hours a day, which is why some refer to cold deserts as "the land of the midnight sun."
Winter brings bitter winds, snowfall, and much shorter days. Even during the winter, some types of grasses, shrubs and sedges manage to survive.
