The 1 Reichspfennig coin was minted in Nazi Germany between 1936 and 1945. The obverse is struck with an eagle over a swastika and the phrase "Deutsches Reich." The reverse is marked with "Reichspfenning," the denomination and a cluster of oak leaves around the mint mark.

The Reichspfennig was struck in the denominations of one, two, five, 10, 20 and 50. The metal composition of the coins changed in 1940 from copper to zinc. Copper, a vital metal for electronics, became scarce during World War II. The size of the swastika beneath the eagle on the zinc coins is smaller than it appears on the earlier copper.
