Are there cold cereals that diabetics should avoid?

Diabetics should choose cold cereals that have lots of complex carbohydrates, such as whole grains, oats and fiber. Any cold cereals that contain a lot of simple carbohydrates, or sugars, should be avoided, as these break down quickly and cause spikes in blood sugar.

The glycemic index and glycemic load are two important factors to keep in mind as a diabetic when buying cold cereals. Foods with more complex carbohydrates have a lower glycemic index, and food with more simple sugars have a higher glycemic index. If a cereal has a high glycemic index, but a low glycemic load, it still may be a healthy choice,.
