An individual who suspects a colon tumor should visit a doctor so that tissue samples can be taken, according to WebMD. Through the tissue samples, medical experts can determine if the colon tumor is malignant or benign.
Individuals are usually recommended to begin colon cancer screenings at the age of 50, according to WebMD. Individuals should also watch for any symptoms of colon cancer, including blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, weakness, ongoing abdominal discomfort and rectal bleeding. Other symptoms are fatigue, feeling that the bowel has not fully emptied and a persistent change in bowel habits. However, individuals often do not experience symptoms in the initial stages of colon cancer.
