Crimson is an intense red color that incorporates a slight hint of blue. Graphic designers who work with the RGB color system use the numbers 220, 20 and 60 to reference crimson.
Along with the base crimson color, a number of related colors include alizarin crimson, razzmatazz and raspberry. Additionally, some shades of pink are related to crimson by virtue of having a similar hue.
Crimson is often used to add an element of power or force to a design. The University of Alabama, Harvard University and the University of Utah represent some well-known educational institutions that incorporate crimson colors into their logos. Crimson is also found in the logos of some Greek fraternities, such as Delta Sigma Theta and Kappa Alpha Psi.
