When does colostrum start in pregnancy?

BabyCenter reports that the body starts making colostrum about three to four months into a pregnancy. It's the first milk produced during pregnancy. The milk that sometimes leaks from the breasts during later stages of pregnancy is colostrum.
Colostrum provides a newborn with a powerful dosage of antibodies and immunoglobulins, which are very effective in providing substantial protection against a variety of viruses and bacteria, according to BabyCenter. Colostrum also acts as a laxative to help newborns eliminate the first tarry stools that are known as meconium. This milk may be a clear fluid, or sometimes it's a dark golden color.
