What is a commis chef?
By Forinfos - 05/09/2025 - 0 comments
A commis chef is an apprentice or junior chef, according to Hcareers. Commis chef positions are suitable for recent graduates of culinary school, offering newcomers the chance to gain knowledge about work in all areas of the kitchen.
Since a commis chef's main goal is to gain practical knowledge of all the areas in the kitchen, a person in this position rotates between kitchen stations, remaining at each station for around six months prior to assuming a position at another kitchen station. Aside from learning from senior chefs in each station, commis chefs are able to assess their personal strengths and interests, gaining a basis for deciding their future area of specialization.
