Common and known human carcinogens include alcoholic beverages, engine exhaust, consumption of processed meat, tobacco smoking, and ultraviolet or UV radiation, according to the American Cancer Society. Substances that are probably carcinogenic to humans include anabolic steroids, inorganic lead compounds, wood biomass fuel and the consumption of red meat.
Carcinogens are substances and exposures that may lead to cancer or increase the risk of getting it, explains the American Cancer Society. Factors that determine the degree of risk that a carcinogen presents include the type of carcinogen, the extent of exposure to it, and the age, gender and family history of the person exposed to the carcinogens.
