What are some common household acids and bases?

Acids can be anything tart, such as lemons or lemon juice, vinegar and wine, while bases are anything that is bitter, including coffee, baking soda and soap. The acids and bases found commonly around the house are abundant.
An acid is anything that has a sour taste, can turn litmus paper red and has the ability to react with bases. A base is is slippery to the touch, turns litmus blue and reacts with acids.
Other acids that might be found around the house include sour milk, apples and carbonated beverages. Other examples of bases include ammonia, sodium hydroxide and Milk of Magnesia.
