Advanced Trauma Life Support courses commonly follow a two-day schedule for the student course and a half-day or one-day schedule for the student refresher course. The ATLS instructor course trains doctors who have completed the student course to become instructors. The instructor courses typically follow a one and half-day schedule.
The ATLS courses are for doctors who treat patients with injuries and cover medical knowledge and manual skills. The courses also provide a systematic approach to assessing and treating injuries. Once a doctor has completed the student course, his completion status lasts for four years.
ATLS courses are a part of the American College of Surgeons’ Continuing Medical Education program.
