People with polyps may experience rectal bleeding, stool color change, anemia due to iron deficiency, nausea and vomiting, according to Mayo Clinic. Polyps also manifest in bowel habit changes and abdominal pain. However, polyps typically don't result in symptoms.

Polyps are cell clumps on the colon lining, notes Mayo Clinic. They are of various types including adenomatous, inflammatory and serrated. Individuals of any age can develop colon polyps; however, individuals aged 50 years and older are more prone to polyps. Though often harmless, certain polyps may lead to colon cancer, a deadly condition if not diagnosed and treated early. It is advisable to undergo regular screening beginning at age 50.
