What is the most common wind direction?
By Forinfos - 29/05/2025 - 0 comments
The most common wind direction in the United States is from the south, based upon data collected from 300 National Weather Service stations. Prevailing winds are defined as the most frequent wind direction observed in one place over a certain period of time.
Surface prevailing winds vary by location, even in the same city. Prevailing winds at LaGuardia airport in New York City are from the northeast, whereas winds most frequently come out of the northwest in Central Park. The strongest prevailing winds over the United States are prevailing westerlies, meaning they come from the east. These winds are in the middle and upper part of the troposphere, as opposed to close to the surface.
