A communications major is a specialized degree program in which students learn the nature of communication among humans and the effects of communication forms on the environment and society. In this program of study, students analyze modes of verbal and nonverbal communication and the media's role in society.
Students studying communication are prompted to critically think about how communication styles and approaches impact relationships, politics, business, society, stereotypes, gender roles and the course of human history. The program of study includes courses from the social sciences, humanities, fine arts, mass communications and interdisciplinary studies, in addition to general education courses.
