The bowtie emblem represents Chevrolet, an American auto company founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant. The company logo, introduced by Durant, is one of the most recognizable car emblems to date.

There is a lot of speculation regarding the origin of the Chevrolet emblem and what it means. The most publicized origin story comes from William C. Durant himself, who claimed that it was inspired by the wallpaper in a Parisian hotel he once visited. An alternative origin story has been put forward by his daughter, who often saw him doodling nameplate designs on napkins at the dinner table.

Other theories about the meaning of the design include the explanation that it is a stylized Swiss flag to represent Louis Chevrolet's beginnings. He was born in to French parents in Switzerland in 1878.
