What is computer addiction?

Computer addiction is a compulsive or excessive disorder in which an individual's computer use has negative effects on his social, personal and occupational function. People who are shy, bored, lonely or suffering from another addiction are more vulnerable to computer addiction.

Someone who is irritable, depressed or anxious because of reduced computer use may suffer from computer addiction. Choosing time on the computer instead of spending time with family and friends may also indicate that there is a problem. Issues with school or work because of excessive computer use is a clear indicator of how serious one's addiction may be.
