What does computer typing refer to?

Typing is the act of inputting data into a computer by pressing the keys of a keyboard to produce the corresponding letters or symbols. Keyboards can be embedded into the computer or used as separate units. There are two main types of keyboards: QWERTY and Dvorak.

The Dvorak keyboard is an alternate layout, but it is not used often or included by default. To type effectively on a QWERTY keyboard, the user positions his hands with fingers over the center row of keys: "ASDF" for the left hand and "JKL;" for the right hand. The small notches on the "F" and "J" keys for the QWERTY keyboard layout are tactile reminders of where to place the index fingers.
