The National Kidney Foundation states that the normal range for glomerular filtration rate is 90 to 120 milliliters per minute divided by 1.73 per meters squared, says MedlinePlus. Older people usually record lower glomerular filtration rate because it tends to decrease with age.
Normal ranges for glomerular filtration rate vary among different laboratories because laboratories use different test samples and measurements, explains MedlinePlus. A rate that is below 60 milliliters per minute for three or more months indicates the presence of chronic kidney disease. A patient whose rate is below 15 milliliters per minute could have kidney failure and requires immediate medical attention.
