However, to convert from fractions to decimals, there is a different method. The denominator of the fraction is multiplied by a number that gives the result as 10, 100, 1,000 or another multiple of 10. For the fraction five-eighths (5/8), the denominator is 8. Multiplying 8 by 125 gives 1,000. To find the answer as the decimal 0.625, multiply both the numerator and denominator by 125 to find 625/1000. In the decimal system, the third digit after the decimal point is the thousandth place, so 625/1000 is the same as 0.625.
