What is a cord of firewood?

A cord is the measurement used for firewood. The official and standard full cord of firewood has a height of 4 feet, a width of 4 feet, a length of 8 feet and a volume of 128 cubic feet. There are other types of cords, varying in size and amount.
Firewood is not commonly sold in full cords because they are too large for home use. Instead, firewood is often sold in terms of face cords. Face cords are also 4 feet high and 4 feet wide but are only about 16 inches long, which is about one-third of a full cord.
