Commonly called the Chinese dogwood, the Cornus kousa var. chinensis is a flowering tree that grows 15 to 30 feet tall. The tree is notable for its white-bracted flowers, which typically bloom in May, its red edible berries, and its impressive red and orange fall foliage.
The berries of the Milky Way dogwood, as it is also known, are large and mature in summer. Its fruit is particularly enjoyed by birds. The tree has no insect or disease problems and is particularly suitable for well-drained locations with full sun to part shade. It requires consistent watering throughout the warmer months of summer.
