Poplin is a strong and tightly woven cotton fabric that is used for clothing and crafting. This fabric uses a plain weave similar to quilting cotton but is less susceptible to wrinkling and easier to iron.
Poplin is a light-to-medium weight material that is most commonly used to make skirts, shirts and dresses. The material is also used for rich upholstery work. Poplin originally consisted of a silk wrap with worsted yarn or a weft but is now crafted from material such as rayon, cotton and silk. The word poplin is derived from the French word "papelino," which is a fabric that was made in Avignon, France, in the 15th century.
