Portugal is a country located on the Iberian Peninsula on the continent of Europe. It is bordered by Spain on the east and the North Atlantic Ocean on the west. It includes the Azores and the Madeira Islands.

Portugal's general latitude and longitude are 39 degrees N and 8 degrees W. The country covers a total land area of about 35,382 square miles, making it a bit smaller than the state of Indiana.

Lisbon is the capital city of Portugal. As of 2011, Portugal had an estimated population of 10,781,459. As of May 2014, Anibal Cavaco Silva is the president of Portugal, and Pedro Passos Coelho is the prime minister.
