What are county ordinances?

County ordinances are laws that have been put into place by the municipal government of a county. They are not binding outside of the county and hold sway over areas not already covered by federal or state laws.
A county ordinance is a local law particular to only that county. County ordinances are a subset of municipal law. They cover subjects like the local area police force, zoning and building regulations within the county, funding for local schools and bylaws that regulate the local government. The county is granted the power to enact ordinances by the state government, and these ordinances generally work to fill gaps left by state or federal law.
