County Tyrone lies in the west of Northern Ireland off the western coast of England and Scotland and is part of the United Kingdom, or British Isles. The largest of Northern Island's six counties, County Tyrone borders Londonderry on the northeast, Fermanagh on the southwest, and Armagh on the southeast.
County Tyrone also shares borders with the Republic of Ireland to its south and northwest and a large section of Northern Ireland's biggest lake, Lough Neagh, on its east. The county, dominated by the Sperrin Mountains, is popular with walkers and cyclists. In 2012 the National Geographic included several driving routes through the mountains in its top 101 scenic drives.
