What are CPAP therapy side effects?

Side effects of continuous positive-airway pressure, or CPAP, therapy include sore throat, dry or runny nose, sneezing, and nasal congestion, according to WebMD. Other side effects include skin and eye irritation and excessive dreaming, especially after the initial commencement of treatment. CPAP use can cause nosebleeds, although rarely.
To relieve nasal drainage and irritation, a corticosteroid nasal spray or humidifier may help, advises WebMD. Doctors may recommend decongestants for runny nose or congestion. Adjusting the CPAP machine or ensuring a better fit of the mask used during therapy is often sufficient to eliminate or reduce the side effects caused by CPAP therapy.
