To create a free Club Penguin account, users must choose a color for their penguin, give it a name and then create a password. Users must also give their parent's email account, confirm the account and agree to the terms and conditions before creating an account.

Club Penguin also offers special benefits for paid membership, including access to all of the features available in the apps. Paying members can collect more clothing for their penguins and adopt up to 75 new pets as of 2015. A membership also gives players access to new content released every month and to more mini games and rare prizes.
