To create your own custom birthday party invitations, glue pieces of cardstock in descending sizes on top of one another. Use a computer to add details to your invitation, and finish with a ribbon or other embellishment.
- Gather all of your materials
For each invitation, you need three different colors of cardstock. Choose three colors that correspond with a specific theme or decoration. You also need double-sided tape, a piece of ribbon or your favorite embellishment, a paper cutter and a pair of scissors.
- Trim the cardstock
Using a paper cutter with a ruler, trim the first piece of cardstock to measure 5 inches by 7 inches. Cut a second piece of cardstock in a different color to measure 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches.
- Design your invitation
Use a downloadable template or your computer's word processor to design the top layer of your invitation. Be sure to add the date, time, location and a contact phone number. The final design must fit into a 4-inch by 6-inch space. Print this design on the third color of cardstock. Once printed, use the paper cutter to trim the cardstock to 4 inches by 6 inches.
- Attach the layers of cardstock
First, use the double-sided tape to stick the printed invitation to the 4.5-inch by 6.5-inch piece of cardstock. Use the adhesive to then bind these two pieces to the largest piece of cardstock.
- Add embellishments
For the finishing touches, tie a piece of ribbon in a bow around the invitation. You can also add stick-on rhinestones or glitter to create additional effects.
