What is the Crips' six-point star?

The six-pointed star, often seen as a tattoo among Crips gang members, is one of a number of identifying marks used to differentiate between different gangs. The exact meaning behind the star, if there is one, is unknown.

It's common for individual gangs or gang members to adopt certain symbols or phrases to identify themselves with a specific location or neighborhood. These symbols are expressed through graffiti or as tattoos on the gang members themselves.
