What is cultism?

Cultism is defined as the practices and devotions of a cult. It is a noun used to describe a cult, a religion, or a religious sect that is considered extreme or false and typically follows a charismatic leader.

As of 2014 in the United States, a few well known cults exist, including the Branch Davidians, a group that was formed by David Koresh in Waco, Texas. The cult believed that all women were David Koresh's spiritual wives, and he soon amassed many wives and weaponry to protect them. In March 1993, the Branch Davidians compound was raided and set on fire while surrounded by law enforcement, bringing an end to the cult. Seventy-seven members, including Koresh, were killed.
